Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the legendary NS-10 monitors! You probably know them already, and if not, maybe you’ve seen them standing on an SSL or Neve console around the worlds most iconic studios. The Yamaha NS-10 speakers launched in 1978 and became a standard in the music industry amongst pop and rock engineers. It was initially a bookshelf speaker designed for the everyday use of homes. It has an interesting story, including tissue paper over the speaker. Yes, you read that correct, but that’s another story.

But why is this speaker so widely used and acknowledged? It's known for its ability to reveal poor quality in recordings and mixes. That’s why many engineers love them… and hate them as well. They are brutally honest on your mix – if it sounds good on the NS-10’s it’ll probably sound good anywhere else! Get to know them, love them and… hate them. But in a right way.
